In Gypsy magic, working with the Moon is of great importance, and many spells and rituals are based on appeals to the Moon-Gaena, using lunar energy flows for their processes. For the new lunar month, I present to you my Lunar Story.

My conversation with the Moon will allow you to hear ancient stories from Gypsy shuwanis and introduce you to the trends of the upcoming lunar month. Listen carefully, feel deeply… the Moon is speaking to you.

🌙 Shuwany hurried along the forest path, worried she might be late. Lately, worry had been abundant: autumn was ending, and the dark, unsettling season was approaching. She needed to prepare for it and anticipate everything, which, as we know, isn’t easy. But perhaps the Moon, with her wisdom, could offer some advice.

“Advice…” the Moon smiled at the question, “I’d rather tell you a story.”

In the forest, under an old, sprawling willow, lived a little hedgehog in a cozy burrow. One fine summer day, after a delicious lunch, he basked in the sun and suddenly thought, “It’s nice now, in the warmth of summer, when food is plenty. But winter will come; what will I do then?”

So the careful hedgehog started gathering supplies. He carried nuts and apples, mushrooms, edible roots, and grains into his burrow, filling every storage corner to the brim, and sighed in relief. But not for long!

“Winter is very long and harsh!” he worried again. “What if I run out of supplies? What will I do…”

So, the hedgehog decided to build another storeroom, filling it with more provisions. Yet even this didn’t seem enough. “Who knows how hungry I’ll be in winter—I could end up starving!” So he built another storeroom, then another.

But no matter how much he stored, anxiety never left him. He no longer enjoyed the warm sun, chatted with his neighbors in the evenings, or wandered the blooming meadows; instead, he worried and busied himself constantly.

“What if…” he thought endlessly, pushing himself without a moment to rest. Rising with the first rays of the sun, going to bed after dark, he ran tirelessly, collecting supplies or building new storerooms. It’s no surprise that by the end of summer, he’d exhausted himself completely and even lost quite a bit of weight.

When autumn arrived and the cold, gray rains began, the hedgehog finally crawled into his burrow, shut the door for the winter, lay down to rest, and slept straight through until spring. He never touched any of his many supplies—he’d worn himself out so much preparing for winter’s hardships.

In the end, the mice took all his supplies!

“Worrying about tomorrow is a natural part of human nature,” said the Moon. “Reasonable caution helps protect us from trouble. But often, people poison their lives with endless worry about the future! They lose peace and joy, wearing themselves out with fears of sorrows that don’t exist, preparing for hardships that never come. While it’s wise not to ignore future needs, don’t let them obscure the light of the present.”
