In Gypsy magic, working with the Moon is of great importance, and many spells and rituals are based on appeals to the Moon-Gaena, using lunar energy flows for their processes. For the new lunar month, I present to you my Lunar Story.
My conversation with the Moon will allow you to hear ancient stories from Gypsy shuwanis and introduce you to the trends of the upcoming lunar month. Listen carefully, feel deeply… the Moon is speaking to you.
🌙 For the first time ever, Shuwany got lost in the forest on her way to the sacred place where she always met the Moon. And the faster she walked, pushing through the underbrush and getting tangled in tall grass, the more it seemed she was heading in the wrong direction. Until suddenly, quite unexpectedly, she emerged into a familiar clearing.
– “I see your journey was harder than usual today!” the Moon smiled.
– “I got lost,” Shuwany admitted with a smile, “barely found my way!”
– “That’s okay! The most important thing is knowing where you’re going. I know a story about that!”
By the bend of a great river lived three little frogs. They lived quite well, catching mosquitoes and midges, swimming in the warm water, and playing tag. But the frogs longed for something more, dreaming of a place where there was more food and warmer water. One day, a magpie flew to the bend for a drink. And, being a typical magpie, she was fond of talking and gossiping. She told the frogs about a wonderful place she had seen—a marshy area teeming with insects of all kinds, a real paradise!
The frogs were overjoyed and immediately decided to find this marvelous place.
The first frog exclaimed:
– “No obstacles will stand in my way to my goal, I will overcome them all!” and he leaped into the river, swimming against the current.
At first, swimming wasn’t too difficult, and the frog felt proud of how strong and determined he was. But soon, it became harder. Finally, his little legs grew tired, and the current started pushing him back. Exhausted, the frog crawled onto the shore and decided that the quest was pointless.
The second frog took a different approach.
– “I will be wise,” he thought. “No need to struggle, the river will carry me where I need to go.”
The frog jumped into the water, flipped onto his back, and floated along with the current. He floated for a long time, the banks rushing past, but the magical place he sought was nowhere to be seen. Growing tired of floating, the frog climbed onto the shore and gave up the idea.
The third frog thought and thought, and then decided to climb a tree. The other two frogs, by now back at their bend empty-handed, laughed at him.
– “Do you really think that magical place is up in the trees? Or that you can reach it by climbing? We’ve never seen such foolishness!”
But the third frog ignored them and climbed higher and higher. Once he was high enough, he looked around and, to his surprise and delight, spotted the very marsh the magpie had described. It was just beyond a hill from their bend—only a half-hour hop away!
So the frogs made their way to the marvelous marsh and lived there, always well-fed and happy.
– “It doesn’t matter,” the Moon noted, “how much effort you put in if your path is misdirected or your goal is unclear. Sometimes people exhaust themselves, and when they can’t reach what they desire, they become disappointed and give up, not realizing they were simply heading in the wrong direction! How much easier it would be to carefully think through your goal and find the shortest path to it from the start!”
