Lunar Tale of March by Shuwany

In Gypsy magic, working with the Moon is of great importance, and many spells and rituals are based on appeals to the Moon-Gaena, using lunar energy flows for their processes. For the new lunar month, I present to you my Lunar Story.

Shuwany waited for the rise of the young Moon, sitting in the evening twilight under an old oak tree. Her attention was caught by a single leaf, left high in the branches since autumn, trembling in the wind. Suddenly, a gust of wind picked it up, tore it from the branch, and carried it away, spinning it into the distance. “How strange,” thought Shuwany, “A last year’s leaf! And yet, by the time I come here again, this tree will surely be covered in new young foliage…”

– You know, – said the Moon, as always knowing what Shuwany was thinking, – that’s the law of life! It works the same with leaves as it does with people! Listen to this!

Once upon a time, there were two brothers. They inherited a forge from their father, so they took up the craft. They worked from morning till night, with no shortage of customers, so they had a good income and lived comfortably. In their village, everyone respected them for their skill and kind nature. “Live and be happy!” some said about them. “A fate to envy,” others agreed.

But the brothers weren’t particularly happy with their fate. Though they weren’t afraid of hard work and were glad to continue their father’s legacy, there was something that kept bothering them. Dreams. One brother dreamed of heroic deeds, fame, and incredible adventures. He wanted to see the world and be a protector of the weak. Maybe even have songs written about his exploits. The other brother wrote poems in the evenings and dreamed of becoming a true poet—to glorify the beauty of his homeland and the deeds of great people.

Then, one day, something unexpected happened. A fire broke out in the brothers’ forge, and everything burned to the ground. Their father’s legacy was scattered to the wind. The brothers grieved, but tears wouldn’t help their sorrow—so they began to decide what to do next.

– What will we do now? – exclaimed the older brother, – We’ve lost everything we had!

– That’s true, – the younger brother said thoughtfully. – But now we’ve gained the whole world!

The older brother was surprised, not understanding his words, but the younger continued:

– Just think! We followed in our father’s footsteps, continued his work. But since this has happened—shouldn’t we now take our own path, search for our own fate, and fulfill our dreams?

The older brother thought about it and agreed. The brothers didn’t rebuild the forge. They gathered their remaining belongings and set off to find their fate, chasing their dreams.

If anyone tells you they achieved their dreams quickly and easily—don’t believe it! It wasn’t like that at all! They had to work hard, face hardships, and overcome difficulties before reaching their goals. And yet, this life seemed sweeter and happier to them than their old one! Because by losing everything they had, they were able to gain everything they desired!

– This often happens in life, – said the Moon. – When someone loses something, they grieve. But the truth is, only by letting go of the old can we make room for the new. Only by turning the page of what’s already been read can we open a new one! Some see losses, while others see new opportunities!
