In Gypsy magic, working with the Moon is of great importance, and many spells and rituals are based on appeals to the Moon-Gaena, using lunar energy flows for their processes. For the new lunar month, I present to you my Lunar Story.

My conversation with the Moon will allow you to hear ancient stories from Gypsy shuwanis and introduce you to the trends of the upcoming lunar month. Listen carefully, feel deeply… the Moon is speaking to you.

A hot summer day gave way to an evening storm. The forest was wrapped in a thick veil of rain, falling with such force it seemed the whole world had vanished behind its watery curtain. “How can the Moon possibly appear in such weather?” wondered Shuwany. “The clouds are covering the entire sky…” But summer storms are swift—just as quickly as they arrive, they pass. The night sky cleared, stars shone brighter after the rain, and the young Moon finally made her appearance.

— “In a way, this is what my story tonight is about,” she said after a warm greeting. “Listen…”

🌱 Once, a farmer decided to plant pumpkins. In spring, he cleared his land of stones, plowed it, broke up the soil, and began to sow the seeds. As he scattered them across the field, a gust of wind caught one seed and carried it under a large stone.

The rains came, and soon it was time for the seeds to sprout. The field turned green with life. Even the seed beneath the stone began to grow. But the tiny sprout quickly ran into a problem—it hit the heavy rock above. It tried this way and that, but the stone wouldn’t budge! While its fellow seedlings basked in the sun and grew strong, the sprout beneath the stone struggled, pushing day after day, hoping to reach the light of the sky.

Eventually, the little plant nearly gave up. The stone was too heavy; it would never see the sun, never touch the sky. It grieved—but then made a decision. If I can’t grow upward, I’ll grow downward.
And so it did. Day by day, its roots pushed deeper, becoming stronger, spreading wider. It found water, nourishment, strength. Until one day, with all its might, it used the power of those roots to break through and emerge from beneath the stone!

To its surprise, the sprout found itself surrounded by weak and withered plants. The season had turned dry. The sun was merciless, and the other sprouts, unprepared and shallow-rooted, had dried up before they could flower or fruit. But this little plant—having unknowingly been sheltered in the shade of what it once saw as a curse—had survived the heat. Its deep, strong roots still drew moisture even in the driest days.

And when harvest time came, there was no plant in the field more powerful, more vibrant, or more fruitful than this little pumpkin, whose seed had once fallen under a stone. 🌱

— “It’s often this way in life,” the Moon observed, “that obstacles seem insurmountable, and trials overwhelming. But those who don’t give up, who keep growing in whatever way they can, may later discover that the obstacle was actually a blessing in disguise.”
