In Gypsy magic, working with the Moon is of great importance, and many spells and rituals are based on appeals to the Moon-Gaena, using lunar energy flows for their processes. For the new lunar month, I present to you my Lunar Story.
My conversation with the Moon will allow you to hear ancient stories from Gypsy shuwanis and introduce you to the trends of the upcoming lunar month. Listen carefully, feel deeply… the Moon is speaking to you.
Shuwany hurried along the night path, almost running, eager to meet the Moon. The only thing that helped was that she knew this path by heart, down to the very last stone—otherwise, in the dark, it would have been all too easy to get lost! And so, out of breath, Shuwany arrived at the cherished clearing almost at the very moment the Moon appeared.
— I barely noticed, — Shuwany sighed after greeting her, — how quickly the day flew by, and I almost missed meeting you!
— There is a remedy for that, — the Moon smiled. — Listen…
🍎 Once upon a time, there lived a man. And he was very busy.
From the outside, many envied him—he was young, wealthy, had a good family, and his business was prosperous. Yet the man himself was far from happy! Too many responsibilities, too many problems weighed heavily on his shoulders. From morning till night he toiled in his workshop, hardly seeing his family—his little son grew up without his father’s attention, and his elderly parents were helped more by neighbors than by their own child. But whenever he turned his attention to his family, his workshop fell into disarray. While the whole neighborhood went out to festivals, he kept working to meet his endless obligations. And still, he never managed to keep up. In the end, he wore himself out so much that his health suffered, and life became unbearable.
One day, the man heard of a wise sage who gave such valuable advice that it could save people even from their hardest troubles. So he asked around and went in search of this sage.
After some time, he found the sage’s house and the man himself, working in his garden. Contrary to expectations, the sage looked quite ordinary and, with his sleeves rolled up, was harvesting his crops. When the man approached him, told him his troubles, and asked for advice, the sage replied:
— Well, I’ll help you! But in return for my advice, I’ll ask you to help me. Look—here are the fruits of my garden: watermelons, apples, and nuts, and also this sack of assorted things. All of this must be taken to the market. But here’s the problem—I have only one basket! So here is your task: fit the whole harvest into the basket, and then come back to me. I’ll tell you how to deal with your sorrow.
The man looked at the harvest, and doubts filled him:
— Tell me, wise one, how could so much possibly fit into one basket? The watermelons alone would fill it to the brim!
The sage only shrugged and went on his way: If you truly want my advice, then carry out my request.
The man got to work quickly—he was eager for the sage’s words. He decided to start with the simplest: he poured the nuts into the basket, and they took up more than half of it. No room was left for apples or watermelons. The man grew disheartened—how could this task ever be done? He emptied out the nuts and filled the basket with apples instead—again, almost full, but where would the watermelons go? He tried with watermelons only, and the basket overflowed. “Still,” he thought, “maybe a few apples will fit.” To his surprise, all the apples did fit, rolling into the spaces between the large fruits. Amazed and delighted, he then tried adding the nuts—and lo and behold, they fit too, settling into the gaps between the apples.
Only the sack was left, and no matter how hard he tried, the man could not fit it in. He sighed—he had almost completed the sage’s task, but not entirely. Still, with nothing else to do, he went back as he was.
The sage praised him and said:
— Now go and do the same with your life. Start with what matters most and give it its rightful place—never neglect it! Fill the rest of your time with important matters. And don’t forget, in the end, to add the small things that make life sweet and fill your heart with joy.
— But wait… the man stammered, I didn’t finish your task completely—I couldn’t fit the sack in the basket!
The sage smiled, untied the sack, and inside were weeds and rubbish.
— And what you cannot fit in, said the sage, still smiling, tie it up in a sack and throw it away. That is the stuff you never needed in the first place! 🍎
— It often happens, the Moon added, that people suffer under the weight of endless daily tasks, never finding time to enjoy the fruits of their own labor. But if you place everything in proper order—deciding what matters most, what is less important, and discarding what is not needed at all—you will discover that life can be far more harmonious and joyful!
