In Gypsy magic, working with the Moon is of great importance, and many spells and rituals are based on appeals to the Moon-Gaena, using lunar energy flows for their processes. For the new lunar month, I present to you my Lunar Story.

My conversation with the Moon will allow you to hear ancient stories from Gypsy shuwanis and introduce you to the trends of the upcoming lunar month. Listen carefully, feel deeply… the Moon is speaking to you.

Shuwany sat deep in thought, as she often did while waiting for the young Moon to appear. And the moment she greeted her, she immediately asked the question that had troubled her for many days:

“Tell me, if we are free to choose our own path, how do we avoid making mistakes? How do we find the best destiny for ourselves?”

“That is difficult,” the Moon agreed. “But there is one answer. Listen…”

🦋 Once upon a time, there lived a little caterpillar. She was quite pretty — green, with tiny funny horns. But the caterpillar herself saw nothing beautiful either in herself or in her life.

“What a miserable fate!” she complained bitterly. “All I can do is crawl on my belly and stuff that very belly! Other creatures have such wonderful lives!”

One day the caterpillar met a grasshopper.

“You are green just like me,” said the caterpillar, “but your life seems much better than mine!”

“That is true,” the grasshopper agreed. “My life is wonderful! Why don’t you try it too? Just jump from leaf to leaf!”

The caterpillar tried to jump. She pushed herself off the plantain leaf she was sitting on — but instead of soaring upward, she painfully crashed onto the ground.

“No… this fate is not for me,” the caterpillar thought sadly.

Another time she met an ant. The ant carried a heavy twig, yet still looked content.

“Your life seems better than mine…” the caterpillar said.

“That is true,” replied the ant. “My life is good! I live with a large family and work for our common good. Why don’t you join us?”

The caterpillar decided to follow the ant. She picked up the first twig she saw and crawled after him.

But the burden was heavy, crawling was difficult, and the sun burned mercilessly overhead.

“No, this is not for me either!” the caterpillar decided, abandoning the idea of living an ant’s life.

“Your life seems better than mine,” the caterpillar said when she met a bee.

“That is true,” the bee agreed. “My life is beautiful! I fly among flowers all day, gathering pollen and drinking sweet nectar! Come with me!”

“Ah,” thought the caterpillar, “this is the most wonderful destiny of all! I want this life!”

She climbed onto a flower and began collecting pollen. She gathered so much — a whole little pile! But then what?

She flapped her tiny legs, trying to fly, but instead tumbled off the flower into the grass, scattering all the pollen.

The caterpillar burst into tears.

“It seems my dreadful fate can never be changed!”

She became so upset that she no longer wanted to see the world at all. She wrapped herself in a cocoon and fell asleep inside it.

And when she awoke, at first she could not understand what had happened. She looked herself over again and again — where had these long legs come from? These antennae? And, miracle of miracles — wings!

From that moment on, the caterpillar’s fate changed completely and became exactly what she had dreamed of. Only one thing she did not know: becoming a butterfly had been her destiny all along. 🦋

“To achieve a happy life,” the Moon said softly, “you must not search for a better destiny by imitating others. You must find yourself. Understand your own inclinations, desires, and talents. Only by following the path of your true purpose can you discover the destiny that is truly beautiful for you.”
