In Gypsy magic, working with the Moon is of great importance, and many spells and rituals are based on appeals to the Moon-Gaena, using lunar energy flows for their processes. For the new lunar month, I present to you my Lunar Story.

My conversation with the Moon will allow you to hear ancient stories from Gypsy shuwanis and introduce you to the trends of the upcoming lunar month. Listen carefully, feel deeply… the Moon is speaking to you.

Despite the chilly evening, the little birds were happily hopping from branch to branch, chirping away about something of their own and paying absolutely no attention to the Shuwany sitting beneath the tree.

“I’m a little envious of them,” she admitted when the Moon finally appeared. “Of their lightness and carefree ways! Soon enough, they’ll fly off to warmer lands, without a care for the harshness of our winters!”

“Birds live as Nature intended them to. They neither sow nor reap; they simply follow the path laid out for them. But for a human being, it is a different matter! Here, listen…”

🫛🌾 Once upon a time, there lived a farmer in a small village. And when spring came, he sowed peas in his field. He tended them, cultivated them, and gathered his harvest in the autumn.

But the peas turned out to be tasteless.

Meanwhile, his neighbour had grown pumpkins! Beautiful, golden, sweet pumpkins! Oh, how our hero envied him — there are no words to describe it! And he himself had to eat his tasteless peas all winter long.

Then another spring came. The neighbour sowed wheat in his field, while our farmer sowed peas.

The very same peas.

Autumn arrived, and the neighbours gathered their harvests. The farmer who had grown wheat now had golden bread, with an aroma that seemed to fill half the village.

And our hero?

More peas.

And once again, they were tasteless!

His envy of his neighbour grew stronger than ever. He became angry with him.

“Why does one person have everything while another has nothing? Why does one have pumpkins and plenty of bread, while another has nothing but peas — and even those are dreadful?!”

Spring came again, and the farmer sowed peas.

But by then he had grown so sick of them that he no longer even wanted to tend his field.

And so the peas did not grow.

When there was finally nothing left to eat, the farmer had no choice but to go and work for his neighbour — even though by that time he thoroughly hated him.

“And how could I not hate him?” he thought to himself. “One has everything, while the other has nothing! It simply isn’t fair!” 🫛🌾

“It often happens this way,” said the Moon. “A person becomes dissatisfied with their life, yet refuses to notice that they are merely harvesting what they themselves have sown.

They sow the same thing again and again, and then become angry when the fruits of their labour are poor.

But if they chose to sow something different, they could gather a different harvest.

All they need to do is put the right seeds into the earth and set themselves a goal. Then they must patiently and diligently nurture those seeds, without giving up or turning away.

And in time — if given enough time — what they truly desire may come to pass.”
